As tensions rise within immigrant and refugee communities across the country, the cities of Raleigh and Durham are demonstrating a warm welcome. If you’ve driven through downtown Raleigh or walked amongst some of the local businesses in Durham, you’ll notice a unique sign. The locally known sign that says “Welcome to Raleigh, Y’all” and “Welcome to Durham, Y’all” has welcome written in 16 languages.
The sign was created by Grayson Haver Currin and Tina Haver Currin, who run the non-profit Come Out & Show Them. As of now, 3,000 stickers and signs have been distributed between these two cities.
All of the proceeds that are collected from this campaign will help aid refugees and immigrants through the U.S. Committee for Refugees, Immigrants (USCRI NC) and Uniting NC.
